Disney World

Since Augusten was born, our five year old daughter MaryJane has been helping out a ton around the house. We've been giving her fifty cents a week as an allowance to reward her hard work. A couple of weeks ago we were getting ready for work early in the morning, Letitia was having her coffee in the dining room when MaryJane came in with her piggy bank. She dumped all of her personal money into a jar that we put our loose change into to go toward a vacation. When Letitia asked MaryJane what she was doing, MJ replied, "I just really want our family to go to Disney World." That sealed the deal and Letitia put her superior online deal finding skills to work. She landed a great package and two weeks later we were off to Florida. Thank you MaryJane for topping off our vacation fund and getting us all to the happiest place on Earth.

Thanks for looking at our photos from one of the greatest times of our lives. We had a blast and can't wait to get back.

impromptu dinner dates

The best laid plans are always created last minute. Some of our greatest memories were made on nights that happened out of the blue. The better ones always had s'mores somewhere in the storyline of course. We had one of these nights on Saturday and here's the proof.

Iris and her dad, Shawny before the bonfire.

Before the party could start, Oren had to grab the perfect stick for marshmallows.

Oh yeah, and seating. After this shot, Oren told MaryJane to relax. "Don't worry MaryJane, I'm really strong, I'll get the rest." Such a gentleman.

So MaryJane went and grabbed the perfect stick.

Nana tried sneaking in a kiss while Iris was distracted by the chivalry.

With the sticks collected and the seats arranged it was time for the fire.  On second thought, maybe we should have had a garden weeding party.

MaryJane overcooked the first one a little bit.

Shawn stepped in with a showcase of form and technique...

...and Iris reaped the reward.

Annie volunteered to be the s'mores maker, and again Iris reaped the reward.

This is a second shot of this moment that I couldn't leave out. I kept extending the shutter speed as the light got less and less and I like the result of this one. Trippy and sweet rolled in to one.

Speaking of getting dark, this was about as far as I could stretch the available light.  We enjoyed the dark for about another forty five minutes  or so. A little past bedtimes but that's what weekends are all about. The last of the sticks were thrown in to the fire and we had one last chicken race to the car to see our friends off.

We can't wait until the next unplanned dinner happens.

The only things missing from this were my wife and our son. Unfortunately, Augusten was tired and teething so by the time Letitia got outside the camera was away. But she still had a couple s'mores and a few laughs before we put the fire out.

... a minute of our time ...

We bought some coconuts from our local Adams Fairacre Farms grocery store, drilled some holes and grabbed some straws.
